Score: 110/110 magna cum laude. 1994 - State Professional Exam for Biologists to become a professionally qualified biologist (Parma, Italy). 1996- PhD in Animal Biology, University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy), defending the thesis: "Castal differentiation in the Isoptera. Study of the behaviour and of the interaction patterns involved in the regulation of social equilibrium in the termite Kalotermes flavicollis". The research work was conducted under the supervision of Prof. G. Agricultural Sciences, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and the enterprise INTRACHEM BIO Italia S.p.A. 2002- present - Researcher (Experienced Researcher as of 2006) in General and Applied Entomology, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia Dept. Life Sciences. Teaching and research activities (see below). 2009 Appointed by AKTC (Aga Khan Trust for Culture) as a scientific-technical specialist consultant in the restoration project of the Djingarey Ber Mosque in Timbuktu (Mali, Africa), with the aim to monitor and assess the condition of the timber elements of the Mosque, infested by xylophagous insects, and to propose an effective, durable and sustainable pest control strategy. The full report of the activity was delivered to the Ministry of Culture of Mali. 2010 Officially elected as Secretary of the Italian section of I.U.S.S.I., International Union for the Study of Social Insects. 2011 Organizer and teacher at "Forensic Entomology: a course of theory and practice” organized by GIEF (Italian Group of Forensic Entomology) at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in Reggio Emilia (Italy) on 27-29 January. 2011 Appointed by AKTC (Aga Khan Trust for Culture) as a scientific-technical specialist consultant in the restoration project of three historical buildings in Damascus city (Siria), with the aim to monitor and assess the conditions of the structural and decorated timber elements of the buildings, infested by xylophagous insects. RESEARCH INTEREST AND FUNDED PROJECTS a) Sustainable management of pests in urban and agricultural ecosystems: eurbani: • Sustainable approach in the management of alloctonous insects with high phytosanitary interest, recently introduced in Emilia Romagna region: In collaboration with Servizio Fitosanitario Regionale Emilia Romagna and Consorzi Fitosanitari Provinciali di Modena e Reggio Emilia. • Biological control of the chinese chestnut wasp Dryocosmus kuriphilus: management of the rearing system for the field release of the specific parasitoid Torymus sinensis; • Monitonitoring and biology investigations on the Asian stink bug Halyomorpha halys (Pentatomidae) and the fruit fly Drosophila suzuki. • Low environmental impact strategies (botanicals, entomopathogenic organisms) for the control of pests in agricultural and urban environments (termites and other xylophagous insects, insects and nematode pests of horticultural crops and grapevine). In collaboration with CNR-IPP (Bari) and Lab. Entomologia Aplicada, Universidad de Sevilla (Spain). • Development and evaluation of innovative wood treatments for its consolidation and protection from biotic agents of deterioration (termites and Dr L. Maistrello CV 3 wood-boring beetles, fungi) and abiotic factors. In collaboration with CPBC (UNICATT PC), Dept. Chemistry (UNIPR), CNR-IVALSA (FI). • Evaluation of preventive strategies for the management of insect pests of food in packaged products. • Integrated management of pests in food production and storage facilities, cultural heritage, urban environments and in emergency situations. b) Protection of honeybee colonies wellness: investigation on colony losses phenomena, focusing on the role of multiple infestations/infections Nosema spp., Varroa destructor and viruses, control strategies against Nosema spp focusing on the use of natural compounds. In collaboration with CRA-API and Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata – CONICET (Argentina). c) Ecology and characterization of arthropod populations feeding on animal organic matter in dry-land and freshwater environments. In collaboration with Department of Chemical & Biological Sciences, School of Applied Science, University of Huddersfield (UK). d) Xylophagous insects in the vineyards (especially termites and wood-boring beetles): assessing the impact and damage and investigation on possible interactions with wood pathogenic organisms. In collaboration with Entomology Lab Aplicada, Universidad de Sevilla (Spain). e) Biology and sustainable management of nuisance bug pests in urban areas (in particular Arocatus melanocephalus, Lygaeidae). ACADEMIC AND SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY Member of the council of: a) Dept. of Life Sciences; b) PhD School in Agri-Food Sciences, Technologies & Bio-Technologies; member of the scientific committee of Inter-Department Centre “Biogest-Siteia” (Agri-food technological platform). Coordinator of the Erasmus agreement exchange with the Un. of Seville (Spain); promoter of the agreement for academic, cultural and scientific-technological collaboration between the Un. of Modena and Reggio Emilia and: a) the Un. of Seville; b) Un. of Huddersfield (UK). TEACHING ACTIVITY As she has always been the sole representative AGR/11 (General and Applied Entomology) in the whole University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, at theFaculty of Agriculture, now Department of Life Sciences, she has always been the holder of all courses related to Entomology and animal pests, both compulsory and optional ones .Presently she teaches: Entomology (CFU= 6), module Applied and Special Entomology (CFU=3), Urban and Stored Product Entomology (CFU=3) (2010-2013). In the past she held the courses: Animal Pest Control (CFU=3), Agricultural and Vineyard Entomology (CFU=3), Urban and Stored Products Entomology (CFU=3) (2008-2010); Integrated Management of Plant Feeders (CFU=4) (2009-2011); Applied Entomology (CFU=3) (2008-2010); Agricultural Entomology (CFU=5) (2002-2008); Stored Products Protection (CFU=4) (2002-2008). Tutor of the research activity of 7 PhD students (3 of which presently active) and supervisor/coordinator of 26 undergraduate and 10 graduate students thesis.
